3-GOAL SECOND PERIOD NOT ENOUGH FOR WOODSMEN IN LOSS TO CYCLONES

Jan 26, 2025

WAUSAU, Wis. — The final game of January ended much the same way the first game of the
month had — which wasn’t good news for the Wisconsin Woodsmen.

In fact, the Woodsmen can hardly wait to put January in their rearview mirror.

Wausau scored back-to-back goals in the first three minutes of the third period, erasing a 3-2
Wisconsin lead and sending the Cyclones to a 4-3 NA3HL victory over the Woodsmen at
Marathon Park Arena.

The Woodsmen, who had opened the month of January with a 6-5 overtime loss to the Peoria
Mustangs, closed out the month with just two wins in eight games, including a current five-
game losing streak.

Wausau netted the only goal of the first period, a John Kriz tally with one second remaining
until intermission.

Unfazed by the last-second first-period goal, the Woodsmen erupted for three goals in the
middle frame to take a 3-2 lead into the game’s final 20 minutes.

Charles Murray opened the second-period scoring for the Woodsmen, netting his seventh of
the season at 8:09. Landon Bechtolt put Wausau back up in front, 2-1, at 14:04, only to have
Johnny Thrasher and Cole Schreiber light the lamp in the period’s final 3:27 to give Wisconsin
the one-goal edge after 40 minutes.

Jake Garrow pulled the Cyclones even just 49 seconds into the third period, and Bechtolt netted
his second of the night just two minutes later to give Wausau the lead for good.

Kieron Wise, making his first start in goal for the Woodsmen, kicked out 24 of the 28 shots he
faced, while Tanner Bonjernoor finished with 31 saves between the pipes for the Cyclones.

Wisconsin is now off until Feb. 7-8, when the Woodsmen travel to Rochester, Minn., for a pair
of NA3HL games against the Rochester Grizzlies. Game time for both contests at the Rochester
Rec Center is slated for 7:05 p.m.
