LUMBERJACKS DEAL WOODSMEN 2 ND STRAIGHT ONE-GOAL SETBACK

Sep 29, 2024

TOMAH, Wis. — There would be no overtime in the Wisconsin Woodmen’s rematch with the
Granite City Lumberjacks Saturday evening. Unfortunately, there would be no win, either.

Granite City peppered the Woodmen net with 42 shots — including 24 in the second period
alone — and despite a Herculean effort by Woodsmen goalie Steven Kelley — the Lumberjacks
escaped the Tomah Ice Center with a 3-2 NA3HL victory, and a sweep of the weekend series.

The two teams traded goals 36 seconds apart midway through the opening period
— Wisconsin’s coming off the stick of Tyler Osborne — only to have the Lumberjacks add their
second of the game just 28 seconds after Osborne’s tally to take a 2-1 lead into the first
intermission.

Pierce Zittel netted his first of the season at 3:11 of the second period to pull the Woodsmen
even, 2-2, but Granite City quickly answered, scoring the eventual game-winner 27 seconds
after Zittel had knotted the game.

Kelley finished with 39 saves between the pipes for Wisconsin, while Granite City goalie Nick
Hansen kicked out 19 of the Woodsmen’s 21 shots on goal.

The Woodsmen are back in action next weekend with a home-and-home series against the
West Bend Power. Wisconsin will host the Power in a 7:15 p.m. contest on Friday at the Tomah
Ice Center, before the two teams head to Kettle Moraine Ice Center in Kettle Moraine, Wis., for
the 7:30 p.m. rematch the following evening.
