KETTLE MORAINE, Wis. — Now that’s more like it
After managing just one goal in a 2-1 loss to West Bend on Friday night — the sixth one-goal
game in their first seven games of the season — the Wisconsin Woodsmen turned up the
offensive heat in the teams’ rematch Saturday evening.
Charles Murray and Nolan Mix each scored a pair of goals and the Woodsmen matched their
season high with six goals on the evening in dealing the Power a 6-2 NA3HL setback at Kettle
Moraine Ice Arena.
Joshua Kauppinen kicked off the Woodsmen scoring onslaught with his team-leading fifth of the
season five minutes into the opening period. Murray netted the first of his two goals with 2:22
remaining in the frame to give Wisconsin a 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.
Nolan Mix sandwiched his third and fourth goals of the season around Murray’s second of the
night to extend the Woodsmen’s lead to 5-0, before West Bend finally broke through at 17:38
of the middle period to cut the Wisconsin lead to 5-1.
Both teams found the back of the net in the game’s final 20 minutes, Wisconsin’s coming off
the stick of Hugh Deinema, to round out the scoring.
