WAUSAU, Wis. — In a battle of Central Division heavyweights, the league-leading Wausau
Cyclones used a two-goal third-period haymaker to knock out the second-place Wisconsin
Woodsmen Friday evening.
The Cyclones scored twice in the game’s final 20 minutes — including a win-clinching empty-
netter with 46 seconds remaining in dealing the Woodsmen a 4-2 setback.
Wausau jumped out to a 2-0 lead, getting a first-period goal from Connor Dvorak and a tally by
Davis Polifka midway through the second. Nolan Mix and Tristen May-Robinson pulled the
Woodsmen even, scoring back-to-back goals just a minute apart to make it a 2-2 game heading
into the third stanza.
A stanza that belonged to the Cyclones.
Dvorak scored his second of the night at 5:56 of the final period and Easton Plachetkal sealed
the Wausau win with his empty net tally at 19:14.
Steven Kelley finished with 23 saves in goal for the Woodsmen, who held a 33-27 advantage in
shots on goal.
The Woodsmen and Cyclones will go at it again on Saturday, as the two teams head to the
Tomah Ice Center in Tomah, Wis., for the 7:15 p.m. NA3HL rematch.
