TOMAH, Wis. — After scoring five or more goals in each of their last six games, the Wisconsin
Woodsmen’s offense hit a speed bump Saturday evening, managing just three goals in their
NA3HL showdown against the Peoria Mustangs.
And three goals wasn’t enough to get the job done.
Wyatt Duke scored three third-period goals, overshadowing a two-goal game by the
Woodsmen’s Tristen May-Robinson, as Peoria dealt Wisconsin a 5-3 setback, and earning a split
in the teams’ weekend series.
Peoria — which dropped a 6-3 decision to the Woodsmen on Friday — netted the game’s first
two goals, with Colten Cox netting his 22 nd of the year to account for the only goal of the first
period, before Cole Moleski scored his first of the year midway through the second period.
May-Robinson got the Woodsmen on the board, off an assist from Colton Holzer, at 13:43 of
the middle frame to cut the Wisconsin deficit to 2-1 heading into the game’s final 20-minute
period.
Duke sandwiched a pair of goals around Viktor Budik’s seventh of the year for the Woodsmen
to make it a 4-2 game midway through the third, and Duke completed his third-period hat trick
with 31 seconds to play to extend the Peoria lead to 5-2.
May-Robinson netted his second of the night — once again off an assist from Holzer — nine
seconds later, but that would be as close as the Woodsmen would get.
Otto Reinhart got the nod between the pipes for the Woodsmen, finishing with 17 saves, while
Peoria goalie Filip Kaczmarczyk kicked out 48 of Wisconsin’s 50 shots on goal.
The Woodsmen are back in action next weekend, heading to Marathon Park Arena in Wausau,
Wis., for a pair of NA3HL games against the Wausau Cyclones. Puck drop on both Friday and
Saturday is slated for 7:10 p.m.
