The Wisconsin Woodsmen kick off NA3HL Fraser Cup play this weekend, squaring off against top-seeded and regular-season champion West Bend in a best-of-three series. Games 1 and 3 (if necessary) will take place in Kettle Moraine, Wis., with Game 2 being hosted by the Woodsmen at the Tomah Ice Center.

WOODSMEN SCOUTING REPORT:

  • FOR THE RECORD: The Woodsmen head into their three-game post-season series against the West Bend Power sitting at 24-16-4-3 overall, earning them the No. 4 seed in the Fraser Cup.
  • LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin split it final two games of the regular season, falling to Central Division champion West Bend 6-2 at the Tomah Ice Center in Tomah, Wis., last Friday, before edging the Rochester Grizzlies 3-2 at the Rochester Rec Center in Rochester, Minn., the following evening.
  • HOME SWEET HOME: Wisconsin closed out the regular season sitting at 11-8-2-3 on the road, while going 13-8-2-0 at the Tomah Ice Center. 
  • COMING IN HOT: The Woodsmen head into their post-season weekend showdown against West Bend having won three of their last four games.
  • STREAK-SNAPPER I: With their 5-2 loss to Rochester on Nov. 8, the Woodsmen had their franchise-record six-game winning streak snapped.
  • STREAK-SNAPPER II: With their 6-4 victory over the Rochester Grizzlies on Feb. 7, the Woodsmen put an end to their season-high five-game losing streak.
  • WHITE-KNUCKLE RIDE: With their 3-2, regular season-ending win over the Rochester Grizzlies last Saturday, the Woodsmen have now played 18 games decided by one goal — including nine that have gone into overtime and three decided in a shootout.
  • FRANCHISE FIRST: After going 0-9-0-1 in its 10 meetings against Wausau last season, the Woodsmen picked up their first-ever win against the Cyclones with a 3-2 victory on Sept. 20, and added win No. 2 with a 6-3 victory on Dec. 21.
  • FRANCHISE FIRST II: Wisconsin’s Oct. 18-19 games against Rochester marked the first-ever meeting between the Woodsmen and the Grizzlies. … The Woodsmen’s two games against the Minnesota Moose on Dec. 6-7, as well as their NA3HL Showcase games against the Mason City Toros and Minnesota Wilderness on Dec. 15-16, were also the first in franchise history.
  • LIGHTING THE LAMP: Hugh Deinema heads into the weekend leading the team with 27 goals — having scored in three of the Woodsmen’s last four games. … Deinema’s 27 goals are a single-season franchise record. … Maxim Lazo is second to Deinema with 21 goals, one more than Nolan Mix, followed by Joshua Kauppinen with 18. Tristen May-Robinson (16), Vincent Greene (16), Brandon Slasor (10), and Viktor Budik (10) have also reached double figures in goals this season. … Deinema closed out the 2023-24 season as the Woodsmen’s leading goal scorer with 29 goals in 44 games.
  • FRANCHISE BEST: Lazo equaled the franchise record by scoring four goals against the Mason City Toros on Dec. 16. The four-goal effort tied Nolan Mix, who tallied four goals against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 26, 2024.
  • FRANCHISE BEST II: Deinema and Bowser each scored three goals in the Wisconsin 8-0 win over Peoria on Dec. 28, marking the first time in franchise history the Woodsmen had to players scored hat tricks in the same game.
  • TOSSING THE HAT: With three goals by both Deinema and Patrick Bowser against Peoria on Dec. 28, the Woodsmen have now had a player record three of more goals in a game five times this season. Lazo owns three- and four-goal games, and Brandon Laso has Wisconsin’s other 3-goal games.
  • TURNING UP THE HEAT: The Woodsmen erupted for 18 goals in their two-game sweep of Peoria on Oct. 18-19. The eight goals scored in their 8-1 win on Oct. 18 were the most Wisconsin had scored all season, only to be two-upped with the Woodsmen’s 10-goal eruption in their 10-7 win the following evening. … The Woodsmen’s 10 goals against Peoria on Oct. 19 were the most since netting a franchise-record 14 against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 26, 2024. … The Woodsmen have now scored 8+ goals in a game three times this season.
  • RIGHT ON TARGET: The Woodsmen finished with a season-high 67 shots on goal against Peoria on Oct. 19 — including 20 in the first period and 29 in their six-goal second period. … Wisconsin’s 67 shots on goal were the third-most in franchise history and just two shy of the program record of 69, set against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 27, 2024.
  • LENDING A HELPING HAND: Budik has amassed a team-leading and single-season franchise-record 40 assists this season, 10 up on Deinema, who is second on the squad with 30 helpers. The duo are among 13 Woodsmen with 10+ assists this season, being joined by Kauppinen (29), May-Robinson (28), Lazo (23), Mix (22), Johnny Thrasher (19), Charles Murray (18), Slasor (16), Greene (16), Justin Funk (12), Daniel Svozil (12), and Colton Holzer (11). … Mix picked up four assists in Wisconsin’s 8-2 win over St. Louis on Nov. 2, one shy of the single-game franchise record of five, set by Hunter Nelson against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 26, 2024. … Budik led the Woodsmen with 30 assists a year ago, four more than Nicholas O’Brien.
  • TRIPLE-DOUBLE: May-Robinson enjoyed a rare weekend triple double against Peoria on Dec. 27-28, collecting three assists in each game.
  • POINT PRODUCERS: With his 27 goals and 30 assists, Deinema sits atop the team’s points race with 57 — breaking his franchise record of 49 points a year ago (29 G, 20 A). Deinema is one of six Woodsmen with 40 or more points, being joined by Budik (10 G, 40 A, 50 Pts), Kauppinen (18 G, 29 A, 47 Pts), May-Robinson (16 G, 28 A, 44 Pts), Lazo (21 G, 23 A, 44 Pts), and Mix (20 G, 22 A, 42 Pts). … Mix’s five-point game against St. Louis on Nov. 2 — scoring once and adding assisting on four others — were a season-high and one-shy of the franchise record. … Greene enjoyed a four-point night against the St Louis Jr. Blues on March 2, scoring twice and assisting on two others in the Woodsmen’s 5-0 win.
  • AMONG THE LEAGUE’S BEST: Budik’s 40 assists this season rank 11th among all NA3HL players, while Deinema’s 27 goals rank 20th, and his 57 points rank 25th.
  • BETWEEN THE PIPES: Steven Kelley heads into this weekend’s games sporting a 3.29 goals-against-average and a .903 save percentage. Lleyton Jaschke boasts a 4.21 GAA and an .877 save %, while Otto Reinhart (3.00 GAA, .881 save %), Andrew Peterson (1.99 GAA, .920 save %), and Kieron Wise (4.12 GAA, .857 save %) have also seen time between the pipes. … Kelley has amassed 763 saves in 23 games, with Jaschke sitting second, kicking out 579 shots in 20 appearances.
  • FIRING BLANKS: Kelley picked up the team’s first shutout of the season on Dec. 17, stopping all 17 shots he faced in blanking the Badlands Sabres 3-0. The shutout marked the second time in as many meetings with the Sabres that the Woodsmen held Badlands scoreless, winning 5-0 in the teams’ NA3HL Showcase meeting a year ago. … Kelley added his second shutout of the season with 35 saves in Wisconsin’s 5-0 win over the St. Louis Jr. Blues on March 2. … Jaschke posted his first shutout between the pipes for the Woodsmen with a 29-save showing against the Peoria Mustangs on Dec. 28.
  • BUSY WEEKEND: Kelley faced 93 shots in the Woodsmen’s two games against the St. Louis Jr. Blues on March 1-2, stopping 56 shots in Wisconsin’s 4-2 March 1 win, before adding 35 in a 5-0 shutout the following day. 
  • SPECIAL TEAMS: Wisconsin is 35-for-182 on the power play (19.2 %). On the flip side, Wisconsin has allowed just 33 power-play goals in its opponents’ 199 PP chances (83.4 %). 

WEST BEND SCOUTING REPORT:

  • FOR THE RECORD: The Power enter their best-of-3 Fraser Cup matchup against the Wisconsin Woodsmen sporting a 35-8-2-2 overall record, earning them the Central Division regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the four-team opening-round series.
  • LAST TIME OUT: West Bend locked up its regular-season title with a pair of wins in the final weekend of the regular season. The Power dropped Wisconsin 6-2 last Friday in Tomah, Wis., before adding a convincing 7-1 win over second-place Wausau Cyclones the following evening in Wausau, Wis.
  • ROAD WARRIORS: West Bend closed out the regular season playing its last four games — and six of its final eight — on the road. The Power finished the regular season with a 17-3-2-1 record on their home ice, while going 18-5-0-1 away from the Kettle Moraine Ice Arena.
  • COMING IN RED HOT: With their wins over Wisconsin and Wausau last weekend, West Bend heads into the post-season riding a six-game winning streak, while going 7-1-0-2 in its last 10 games.
  • LIGHTING THE LAMP: Jackson Hoem heads into the post-season as the Power’s goal-scoring leader with 30, while Andrew Browe is second with 23. Mike Sobaski (16), Teagan Scheruer (12), Michael Maillette (12), Jace Fitzgerald (11), Lucca Weinkauf (11), Quinn O’Connor (11), Danny Jurcich (10), and Tommy Kundinger (10) have also scored 10 or more goals this season.
  • LENDING A HELPING HAND: Browe has amassed a team-best 45 assists in 44 games. He is one of nine West Bend players with 20+ helpers, being joined by Scheurer (26), Hoem (24), Jace Fitzgerald (23), Brody Josselyn (22), Weinkauf (22), Odin Klebba (21), Kelly Coldwater (20), and Drew Sparacino (20).
  • POINT PRODUCERS: West Bend boasts a pair of players — Browe and Hoem — who have eclipsed the 50-point mark this season. Browe leads the way with 68 points (23 G, 45 A), while Hoem has 54 (30 G, 24 A). Scheurer (12 G, 26 A, 38 Pts), Sobaski (16 G, 18 A, 34 Pts), Fitzgerald (11 G, 23 Pts, 34 Pts), and Weinkauf (33) have all collected 30+ points, with Josselyn (7 G, 22 A, 29 Pts) one point shy of going the 30-point club.
  • AMONG THE LEAGUE’S BEST: Hoem’s 30 goals this season rank eighth among all NA3HL players, while Adam Prokop’s 1.58 goals-against-average and .938 save percentage are both No. 2 among NA3HL goalies
  • BETWEEN THE PIPES: Prokop has been a workhorse between the pipes for the Power, compiling his 1.58 GAA and .938 save percentage in 20 games (1215:07 minutes). Ben Glaesman has appeared in 15 games, boasting a 2.65 GAA and .898 save %, while Owen Soderholm, 3.30 GAA, .890 save %), Connor Doyle (2.15 GAA, .910 save %), Samuel Siepert (0.00 GAA, 1.000 save %), and Mick Marlow (0.00 GAA, 1.000 save %) have also seen time between the pipes. … Prokop leads the team with 517 saves, followed by Glaesman with 336. Soderholm (192) and Doyle (156) have also made more than 100 saves this season.
