ROCHESTER, Minn. — Just a day after Nolan Mix scored a pair of late third-period goals to lift
the Wisconsin Woodsmen to a 6-4 victory over the Rochester Grizzlies, it was another third-
period rally that decided Saturday’s rematch.
Unfortunately for the Woodsmen, this time around, it was the Grizzlies with the late-game
heroics.
Rochester scored three unanswered goals in the game’s final frame, including a pair of Noah
Gillette, as Rochester rallied from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Woodsmen 4-3 and earn a split in the
teams’ NA3HL series at the Rochester Rec Center.
Cooper Johnson gave the Grizzlies the upper hand early, scoring the only goal of the first
period, but it would be the Woodsmen who dominated the second stanza, getting goals from
Maxim Lazo and Tristen May-Robinson to take a 2-1 advantage into the game’s final 20
minutes.
Daniel Svozil netted his sixth of the season just 42 seconds into the third period to extend
Wisconsin’s lead to 3-1.
That, however, would be the extent of the Woodsmen’s offense, while the Grizzlies still had
plenty of gas in the offensive tank.
Gillette scored back-to-back goals just six minutes into the third, and Felix Wadstromer added
what proved to be the game-winner with 5:21 remaining in regulation, as Rochester bounced
back from Friday’s loss and maintained its strangle hold on third place in the Central Division
standings.
Nolan Mix, who was the hero of Friday’s Woodsmen victory — scoring the game’s final two
goals late in the third period of the 6-4 victory — collected assists on two of the team’s three
goals.
Lleyton Jaschke was busy between the pipes for the Woodsmen, kicking out 33 of the 37 shots
he faced, while Grizzlies’ goalie Joey Bertram recorded 31 saves.
The Woodsmen are back in action next weekend, returning home to the Tomah Ice Center for a
pair of NA3HL games against the St. Louis Jr. Blues. Game time on both Friday and Saturday
night is slated for 7:15 p.m.
