BLAINE, Minn. — The Wisconsin Woodsmen put an end to their two-game losing streak in
dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon, getting an overtime goal from Joshua Kauppinen 1:24
into the extra session to beat the Minnesota Moose 2-1 at the Fogerty Ice Arena.
Wisconsin, which was blanked by the Moose 3-0 in the first game of the teams’ NA3HL
weekend series on Friday, scored the game’s first goal — and, thanks to Kauppinen, the game’s
last in earning the split.
After a scoreless first period, Hugh Deinema broke the deadlock, netting his team-leading 14 th
goal of the season 6:58 into the second stanza.
The Woodsmen would maintain that one-goal advantage until late in the third period, when
Luke Steffen found the back of the net with 41 seconds remaining in regulation to send the
game into overtime — and set up Kauppinen’s OT heroics.
Lleyton. Jaschke picked up the win in goal for the Woodsmen, stopping 30 of the Moose’s 31
shots on goal. Dylan Posch, meanwhile, finished with 36 saves for the Moose.
The Woodsmen are back on the road next Friday, heading to the Rochester Rec Center in
Rochester, Minn., for a 7:05 p.m. NA3HL showdown with the Rochester Grizzlies.
