BLAINE, Minn. — This time there would be no need for overtime or a shootout — Maxim Lazo
made sure of that.
Lazo tied the franchise record, scoring four goals, as the Wisconsin Woodsmen snapped a two-
game losing streak — with both games decided in shootouts — beating the Minnesota
Wilderness 7-5 Monday evening in the NA3HL Showcase at the National Sports Center.
The evening didn’t start quite the way the Woodsmen had hoped, spotting the Wilderness a 3-0
first-period lead. Justin Funk got Wisconsin on the board with 2:38 remaining in the opening
frame, and Lazo netted the first of his four goals 2:53 into the second period to make it a one-
goal game.
The two teams would trade goals before the second period ended — Wisconsin’s coming on
Lazo’s second of the evening — to leave the Woodsmen staring at a 4-3 deficit heading into the
third period.
Vincent Green got the Woodsmen even with his sixth of the season 3:26 into the third period,
but the Wilderness answered 44 seconds later to regain the advantage, 5-4.
From there, however, it was all Woodsmen, as Mix scored at the 8:08 mark and Lazo added
back-to-back tallies in the game’s final 10 minutes to seal the come-from-behind victory.
Lazo’s four-goal effort matched that of Nolan Mix, who scored four goals against the Minnesota
Loons on Jan. 26, 2024.
Lleyton Jaschke was busy between the pipes for the Woodsmen, stopping 40 of the 45 shots he
faced, while Minnesota goalie Nate Jansen made 36 saves in goal for the Wilderness.
Wisconsin closes out its three-game set at the NA3HL Showcase on Tuesday, squaring off
against the Badlands Sabres at 12:15 p.m. at the National Sports Center.
