WOODSMEN COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP WITH 10-7 WIN OVER PEORIA

Oct 20, 2024

PEORIA, Ill. — The offensive fireworks continued for the Wisconsin Woodsmen Saturday
evening.

And for the second night in a row, Nolan Mix and Joshua Kauppinen were leading the offensive
barrage.

Wisconsin — coming off an 8-1 win over Peoria on Friday — erupted for a season-high 10 goals,
including two each from Mix and Kauppinen for the second night in a row, in cruising to a 10-7
NA3HL victory over the Mustangs at Owen Center.

The teams set the tone for the high-scoring affair early, combining for six first-period goals.
Andrew Catalano and Mix found the back of the net for the Woodsmen, but it would be the
Mustangs who took a two-goal leading into the first intermission — scoring four times on 16
first-period shots.

Wisconsin’s Vincent Greene and Peoria’s Connor O’Laughlin traded goals in the first eight
minutes of the middle frame, before the Woodsmen’s offense truly came to life, scoring five
unanswered goals — two by Kauppinen and one each by Tristen May-Robinson and Tyler
Osborne — to take the lead for good, 8-5.

Peoria cut the Woodsmen lead to two, 8-6, before the second period ended, but the
Woodsmen iced the win by sandwiching goals from Brandon Slasor and Mix around a lone
Mustangs tally.

Johnny Thrasher and Hugh Deinema did their part for the Woodsmen offense, each recording
three assists, while Greene and Daniel Svozil each chipped in a pair of helpers.

The Woodsmen finished with a season-high 67 shots on goal — including 20 in the first period
and 29 in their six-goal second period — while Wisconsin goalie Otto Reinhart kicked out 31 of
the 38 Peoria shots he faced.

Wisconsin’s 67 shots on goal were the third-most in franchise history and just two shy of the
program record of 69, set against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 27, 2024.

The Woodsmen return home next weekend for a pair of NA3HL contests, playing host to the
Rochester Grizzlies in back-to-back 7:15 p.m. contests at the Tomah Ice Center next Friday and
Saturday.

Heads UpThe Wisconsin Woodsmen are partnering with Tomah Middle Schools to stock up Rachel's Closet. This project will establish a pantry available to students who need clothing items, food, or personal hygiene products. If you need a reason to go through your coat closet and take out what no longer fits (but is still in good shape), this is it! We will have a donation bin for fans to drop off donations on home game days during the month of November. Let's stock Rachel&#woodsmenhockey##communityckey #community ... See MoreSee Less
