PEORIA, Ill. — Wisconsin turned up the offensive heat Friday evening, getting goals from six
different players — including two each from Joshua Kauppinen and Nolan Mix — as the
Woodsmen erupted for a season-high eight goals in drubbing the Peoria Mustangs in an NA3HL
showdown at Owens Center.
The Mustangs struck first, getting a goal from Edwin Peterson less than five minutes into the
opening period.
That, however, would be the lone bright spot for the Mustangs — and served as a wake-up call
for the Woodsmen.
Mix netted the first of his two goals at the 13:19 mark, knotting the game at 1-1 heading into
the first intermission. Kauppinen and Maxim Lazo scored less than two minutes apart early int
the second stanza, and Mix, Kauppinen, Patrick Bowser, Tristen May-Robinson, and Hugh
Deinema all found the back of the net in the Woodsmen’s five-goal third period to seal the win.
Along with his two goal, Mix also delivered a pair of assists, while Deinema added three helpers
to his third-period goal, and May-Robinson and Viktor Budik both chipped in two assists.
Otto Reinhart stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced between the pipes for the Woodsmen, while
Mustangs’ goal Albert Anchnec faced 52 Wisconsin shots, kicking out 44.
The Woodsmen and Mustangs will go at it again Saturday evening, returning to Owens Center
for the 6 p.m. NA3HL rematch.
